Creamsicle Shot - "Little Beer"

This delicious shot is called a "little beer". It is named after its appearance and not after its taste because it actually tastes nothing like a beer and tastes everything like a delicious orange-creamsicle. Given this dreaded winter I think we could all go for a shot that tastes like a creamsicle these days!  I personally love after dinner liquors, and when I was first introduced to 43 Licor I immediately thought I wasn't going to like the taste. Boy was I wrong! It is seriously so delicious. It quickly became one of my favorites.

So you're probably wondering what is this Licor 43? Licor 43 is a Spanish liquor that contains 43 diverse ingredients (hence the name) It is made of a mix of citrus and orange blossom flavors with a subtle vanilla tone, a sip of Licor 43 is said to taste like a "Spanish summer". It's quite sweet but it so yummy! When people ask me to make them a shot, this is one of my go-to recipes. It's simple and contains only two ingredients.

There is a little technique involved to make it look like the "little beer" so I wanted to show you exactly how I did the layering of the milk on top! Be sure to watch the video on this one. It is much easier to watch me layer the shot than it is to explain it!

Here's what you'll need:

  • Shot glass
  • Spoon
  • 1.5 ounces of Licor 43
  • .5 ounce of whole milk or half & half (whichever you prefer)

Side note: Skim milk will work but not as well ( I tried it, in hopes of being healthier, but it really sacrifices the taste!)

Here's how you layer your shot! Your liquor goes in first and the cream second! It will not work if it's the other way around. Start by pouring the Licor 43 into your shot glass, slowly filling it up about 3/4 of the way full. Once you have that done you need to grab your spoon and lay it upside down over the top of the shot glass (like shown). If the edge of the spoon is touching the edge of the shot glass it will make the layering come out perfectly. SLOWLY. I repeat SLOWLY pour your milk over the spoon on top of the shot. You will see the milk floating on the top of your shot, and it looks awesome!

Pull the spoon away and take a look at your "little beer" shot. It should look exactly like a little beer and taste exactly like a creamsicle! Try ordering these your next time out with friends or making them at home. They are bound to be a hit. Trust me. Cheers!
