Happy National Margarita Day!
Tequila is one of America's favorite spirits, and it's most commonly used in making a margarita. Over the years there have been a ton of different renditions of the traditional recipe. Today I want to share with you my latest experiment with making a delicious naturally flavored margarita! How perfect is it that National Margarita Day falls on a Saturday? Given that, we should all be able to treat ourselves but becareful because a margarita (especially the flavored ones) can end up being over 600 calories in just ONE!
Once I found that out, I almost wanted to give up margarita's all together, but they are way too delicious to do that! The pre-made mixes are the sugar & calorie killers. I know they seem easier to use because all you have to do is add tequila, but with just a little more time and effort you can have a naturally tasty margarita without the guilt! I also opted to use the orange liquor Cointreau instead of Triple Sec because the sugars and calories in Triple Sec are notably higher than in Cointreau.
What you'll need:
Infusing liquor is easy, fun and a great way to make your tequila the exact flavor you enjoy! The longer you let it sit, the tastier it becomes and without all those artificial flavors. A lot of the time those artificially flavored spirits taste unnatural because they are made from synthetic ingredients. I wanted to try something different so I infused my Milagro tequila. (one of my favorite blanco tequilas and reasonably priced about $21 per bottle) with pineapple and cinnamon. I cut the pineapple and stacked the pieces into a small mason jar alongside cinnamon sticks. You can also use ground cinnamon as well. Let it sit in the fridge for a few days until it was ready to be poured into my margarita for today!
